The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Canada and the University of Ottawa's "Information Integrity Laboratory" (IIL), hosted the inaugural GCTF Franchise in Ottawa on April 12, focused on "Building Democratic Resiliency Against Disinformation: Elections in Taiwan and Beyond." Taiwanese counter-disinformation experts shared insights on empowering citizens to combat foreign interference in democratic elections through misinformation. Their presentations offered diverse strategies and engaged attendees from various sectors, aiming to bolster global democratic resilience.
This landmark event garnered widespread attention, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds. Alongside Canadian governmental officials, diplomatic representatives from countries such as the United States, Australia, Japan, Europe, and Latin America actively participated. Nearly 40 individuals from 21 nations and over 100 attendees from think tanks, academia, and student communities enriched the discussion, fostering vibrant exchanges of ideas and perspectives.
